Edith Gittins was an unusual combination of artist and social reformer who campaigned for women’s rights. She founded the Leicester Women’s Liberal Association and was an active member of the Women’s Suffrage movement.
She was a disciple of Ruskin and Morris (she almost worshipped the latter according to Sydney Gimson) and, as a member of the Leicester Society of Artists, she exhibited at the Royal Academy.
